10 Little Known Thanksgiving Facts About Me

1.  I cannot decorate my house for Christmas before Thanksgiving.  I have pulled some Christmas items out ON Thanksgiving, but never, ever before.  And the tree never goes up until the first weekend in December at the earliest.  I will get too bored with it all out for so long.  Speaking of Christmas decorating..... I don't "theme" decorate the tree.  I always use a collection of ornaments from our life.  I almost ALWAYS get an ornament from places we have visited, I ALWAYS use the ornaments Elizabeth has made and I ALWAYS use my Christopher Radko Shiny and Bright ornaments..... THAT'S what a Christmas tree means to me.  (I know that has nothing to do with Thanksgiving, but wanted to share.)

2.  Our Christmas Elves show up on the day after Thanksgiving...... yep, we have two of them.

3.  The years we are out of town for Thanksgiving, I do miss the turkey, dressing and mashed potatoes.  Yep, sure do.  But I prefer my mom's ...... sorry mom-in-law.

4.  If we are in town, I like to run the turkey trot here on Thanksgiving morning.

5.  When Steve was in high school, he had the opportunity to march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade....... and every year, he retells the same stories.  If you'd like to hear them, I can have him call you next week.

6.  Our new tradition at our house is to watch "Elf" on Thanksgiving night....... and then "Christmas Vacation" if we're not passed out from too much turkey...... awesome night at our house, right?

7.  Last year was the first year I hosted Thanksgiving at my house for my sister's and my family because our parents were out of town.   I'm still wondering how we got out of going to Steve's moms...... odd.

8.  I usually bring sweet potato casserole and squash casserole to my mom's and mashed potatoes and a dessert to my mom-in-law's.  I think it's only right for everyone to pitch in.

9.  I don't go shopping on Black Friday.  I worked retail for 10 years and just the thought makes me twitch.  I have occasionally run to Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby in the afternoon when the crowds have died down...... but only in emergencies.

10.  The Iron Bowl is Thanksgiving weekend.  Hubs and I usually have a hard time watching together..... we both love our teams and get a little rowdy.  We usually do start talking to each other by the next morning..... but the hours after the game can be very difficult.  One of us likes to rub it in a little..... I won't mention who.
